Electrician & Plumber Invoicing

Service trades have costs office work doesn't: truck, tools, inventory, parts, emergency calls. Your invoice needs to account for all of it.

Service call structure

Electricians and plumbers typically charge: service call fee ($50-150, depending on your market) plus hourly labor ($85-200/hour) plus parts at cost or marked up 20-40%.

Service call invoice example: 1. Service call (diagnostics) Qty: 1 Rate: $85.00 2. Labor — repair (2.5 hours) Qty: 2.5 Rate: $100.00 3. Water heater replacement part Qty: 1 Rate: $320.00 4. Parts markup (20%) Qty: 1 Rate: $64.00 Subtotal: $734.00 Tax (8.5%): $62.39 Total: $796.39 Payment terms: Due upon completion Notes: Warranty: parts 1 year, labor 30 days. Service call fee waived if repair proceeds.

Emergency and weekend surcharges

10 PM call on Sunday? That's not your regular rate. Add 50-100% for after-hours work. Put it on the invoice as a separate line: "After-hours emergency surcharge: $85."

Materials markup

Don't eat the cost of parts sitting in your truck. Mark them up 20-40% depending on your market. Put the part and markup separately on the invoice so it's clear where the money goes.
